At the initiative of a group of battery importers, a new structure has been established for the take-over of the legal responsibilities due to importers and manufacturers of portable batteries and accumulators: the National Battery Recycling System (SNRB).
This autonomous non-profit structure intends to support all battery manufacturers and importers with a view to fulfilling the obligations set forth by the legislation in force, HG 1132/2008, OM 669/1304/2009 and OM 1399/2009.
The main responsibilities incumbent on manufacturers and importers of portable batteries and accumulators are the following:
- To register in the register of battery manufacturers with the National Environmental Protection Agency (ANPM) according to OM 669/1304/2009;
- To update the annex to the registration number on an annual basis – by the 28th of February according to OM 669/1304/2009;
- To report to the National Environmental Protection Agency (ANPM) on an annual basis by the 28th of February according to OM 399/2032/2009;
- To finance collection, treatment and recycling within collective or individual schemes for the management of waste battery and accumulators;
- Compulsory annual individual targets for the collection and recovery of marketed portable batteries
SNRB is registered with the European structures in the field of recycling in order to be in permanent contact with the European legislation and regulations, and to benefit from the expertise and the know-how gained in countries with tradition in the field of portable battery recycling, such as Switzerland, France and Germany.
